New Moon in Capricorn: Don’t Run from the Werk

The New Moon will peak in Sidereal Capricorn 20°45′ at 1:04 PM PST, and that means IT’S TIME TO WERRRRRK, HOES!  I hope you got your big girl panties on because I’m going to be dropping some truth bombs up in this bitch!

The New Moon is a time of new beginnings and setting intentions.  Since the Moon is in the sign of Capricorn, we’ll be planting seeds of Capricorn qualities.

First, let’s dive into what Capricorn represents and the energy it expresses.  This is a cardinal earth sign represented by a sea goat.

As this goat works it’s way up the mountain from the ocean, it evolves and in this process of striving for success, it can be easy to lose sense of (or even forget) where we came from.  While I do think it’s important to have ambitious goals and to hustle our hearts out to obtain what we want, in retrospect, we have to remember who we are at our core and honor our roots.  The sea goat is an earth sign but he comes from the ocean, so holding balance with accessing our receptive side is extremely important, because that’s our innate resource, or a birthright that gets pushed aside or completely rejected.

This Saturnian ruled sign is practical, administrative, methodical, organizing and very cautious.  It’s not usually optimistic at first—it needs to see results or cold hard facts through it’s own experiences.  This energy tends to come off as cold or detached, and people who have a strong Capricorn influence in their charts usually isolate themselves from others.  These are the “workaholics” of the zodiac who are status seeking and striving for perfection (yet never satisfied.)  They’re very conservative—which can come off as seriousness—unforgiving, rigid and can be a bit of a slave driver towards themselves and others.

Planning will be a huge deal for the next four weeks, so think about long term goals we have and what we’re going to do to reach them.

In order to successfully manifest what we want this year, we’ll need to be disciplined, systematic and patient in our approach.  Being that Capricorn is an earthy energy, it’s slower moving (think of the tortoise from The Tortoise and the Hare story) and we want to take our time when it comes to working towards our 2019 goals.  Rushing will only cause burnout—and we might have that feeling due to Mars being in his home sign this week.  We should try our best to control or pace ourselves by developing the qualities of responsibility, and perseverance in terms of longstanding objectives that we are pursing, because there really is no point in rushing.  It’s only the 2nd month of the year and if we’re showing up consistently, we’ll create the outcome we want.

Be aware of how we are treating others during this lunar month, like I said earlier, Capricorns can come off emotionally disconnected and cold, and a bit controlling too.

Moon/Mercury – Conjunction

The ability to disciplining our minds in order to build a stable infrastructure for the outcomes we want to experience. The feelings become rational, and common sense is a big key word for this transit. Being that the cool, detached communication and reasoning skills of Mercury are softened by the sympathetic, caring nature of the Moon, this produces a responsive and thoughtful response from us, a more sympathetic feedback when dealing with others, because we become aware of our feelings and will be more inclined to communicate them. In a chart, people with this combo tend to be way too accommodating to others, so just be careful of that. Are we holding in our feelings as a convenience to others?  We should integrate this energy and NOT compromise our emotions for the sake of another person’s feelings.

Moon/Jupiter – Sextile

About 5 hours later, this transit will be exact and affect this New Moon in a beautiful way.  Here we are allowing ourselves to expanding our knowledge, we feel much more inclined to learn new things.  Asking for favors from others are usually granted, and we’ll all be feeling really optimistic and hopeful for what’s to come.  This combination brings lots of luck, so using effort and opportunity to have things go our way will be beneficial to the plans we should be creating right now.

The sky is divided up into 27 regions that contain fixed stars groups which have an affect on the Moon, in Vedic Astrology it’s called a Nakshatra or a lunar mansion.

This New Moon will be located in Shravana or Aquila (it means eagle in Latin).  This is the eagle that carried Zeus/Jupiter’s thunderbolts in Greco-Roman mythology.  In Vedic Astrology, this star group is symbolized as a trident or even an ear, and it’s presiding deity is Vishnu, The Maintainer or “The One Who is Everywhere.”  If you’re familiar with Hindu Mythology, it’s kind of interesting how Vishnu is usually riding a eagle-like bird named, Garuda.

Many believe that this influence will be just about listening, however it’s more about the movement or flow of knowledge through educating yourself (hearing) or the transference of skills in a swift manner.
